In times like thisWe used to laugh at times like this. The shades were up and the low moan of the record player kept us moving,In times like this
Dancing nose to nose. We were only children then,
And the glitter of ruby slippers and pink rhinestones filled our eyes.
Dreams were so attainable,
we never reached for the sky.
We had each other and my Grandma’s living room.
Her hardwood floor for slipping socks, and knotted rug for cards.
Old dial televisions kept us off our tails.
We used to cry at times like this.
Our first goldfish died and we buried it together.
